Basic AI Use Checklist

☐ Know how AI is being used in your organization.
Maintain a basic understanding of which AI tools employees are using and what they are being used for.

☐ Establish clear expectations for acceptable use.
Employees should understand which uses are appropriate, which require additional caution, and which should be avoided.

☐ Protect sensitive information.
Provide clear guidance on what confidential, personal, client, or proprietary information should not be entered into AI tools.

☐ Maintain human oversight.
Important AI-generated work should be reviewed by a person before it is relied upon, published, or shared externally.

☐ Assign responsibility.
Identify a clear point of contact for AI-related questions, concerns, or incidents.

☐ Apply greater scrutiny to higher-risk uses.
AI used for consequential decisions should receive more oversight than routine uses such as drafting, summarizing, or brainstorming.

One more good habit:

☐ Review your approach periodically.
Revisit your AI practices as your organization adopts new tools or begins using AI in new ways.
